Three times a year, Oasis For Girls hosts a Career Night so that our girls have the opportunity to meet and learn from women in various professions about the challenges and successes they have experienced on their career paths. See photos from past events here!
We are currently seeking women with at least five years of professional experience to serve as mentors. Our girls typically enjoy talking to and hearing from women in the following industries such as: technology, fashion, culinary, finance, education, nonprofit/social justice, event planning, arts/culture, healthcare, and media/communications. Women in other unique/interesting lines of work are also welcome.
Because we seek to work with mentors who have shared experiences with our girls, women of color and/or from low-income backgrounds are encouraged to participate.
Wednesday, March 15th
The Women’s Building (18th between Valencia/Guerrero)
5:00 pm – 7:30 pm
In addition to sharing their wisdom and experience with our girls, Career Night mentors make a gift of $250* to Oasis For Girls. The funds are used for additional career exploration activities including field trips to local universities and businesses. *This may be covered by a mentor’s employer. We are also accepting donations to help underwrite the participation of women from traditionally lower income professions such as the arts and nonprofit.
Share your story and the experiences you have had on your career path.
Support the growth and development of under-served teenage girls by giving them a glimpse into ‘a day in your professional life’.
Connect with other incredible professional women who are committed to cultivating the next generation of strong and successful women.
The event starts with 2 speakers who set the tone for the event- giving a brief inspirational summary of their professional paths. These speakers are followed by rotating small group discussions with 4 mentors and 15 girls. In total about 50 girls attend the event.
We ask mentors to bring a “prop” or item that represents their field, and if possible a small token to leave with the girls. Past examples have been makeup samples, company-branded items, cupcakes, and piggy banks. We would also appreciate a copy of your professional bio for the girls to review before the event.
